Stage 6 Religious Education

In Stage 6 (Years 11 & 12) students study Studies of Religion or Catholic Studies.

Studies of Religion I & II

These courses promote an understanding and critical awareness of the nature and significance of religion and the influence of belief systems and religious traditions on individuals and within society.

In the Preliminary Course, students study:

In the I Unit Course:

  • Nature of Religion and Beliefs
  • Religious Traditions Study: Judaism
  • Religious Tradition Study: Christianity

Additionally in the II Unit Course:

  • Religious Tradition Study: Islam
  • Religion in Australia pre-1945
  • Religions of Ancient Origin

In the HSC Course:

In the I Unit Course:

  • Religion and Belief Systems in Australia post-1945
  • Religious Tradition Depth Study: Judaism
  • Religious Tradition Depth Study: Christianity

Additionally in the II Unit Course:

  • Religious Tradition Depth Study: Islam
  • Religion and Peace
  • Religion and Non-religion

Catholic Studies

This Board Endorsed Course is academically oriented whilst also being an enriching study of the Catholic faith. This course provides an option for students who do not wish to undertake the Board Course, Studies of Religion.

The course aims to assist students towards:

  • making sense of everyday life experiences in the broader contexts of mystery, complexity, confusion and awe;
  • gaining access to and understanding the Scriptures, the traditions of the Catholic community, its stories, its experiences and its teachings;
  • celebrating with others the mystery and life of the Risen Christ;
  • responding to the activity of God in their lives and in the whole of creation.
